Rise and Shine!
For the past few nights at least – from what I can remember – I have been waking up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason.
I don’t know if it is because I am hot.. Hungry.. Or about to have a nosebleed.
Sometimes I’ll wake up mid-nosebleed because I’m way too hot, but that doesn’t happen that frequently.. In fact it has probably only happened twice this week which is good. When I get those, I’m generally out of bed and getting sorted, which usually takes me between 20-30 minutes before I’ve got it under control and stopped. I find that I don’t have a nosebleed when I wake up if I take an antihistamine before bed.. which makes me also believe that my nosebleeds may be allergy related somehow.. I don’t know! I haven’t quite figured it out yet!
This morning I woke up and it was about 3:45 am. I looked at my phone.. I had a few messages so I answered them.. then I got a message back. That message became a phone call that turned into a 40 minute conversation. After that I watched some television on my (newly fixed!) laptop and ended up drifting back to sleep again at around 5:40 am. I wasn’t tired. That was the problem. I’d gone to sleep at my normal time of between 10 and 11:30 pm and was fine in doing so as I’m sure I just drifted off.
I don’t get what it is.. but it is quite frustrating waking up thinking that it is morning time when it is not.
Tonight, before bed, I think that I am going to have some camomile tea.. I’m not sure yet because the problem isn’t me falling asleep.. the problem seems to be staying asleep all night.
This happened to me quite a bit in Portugal.. but that was a lot to do with the fact that we went out almost every evening or were up all night.. so my sleeping pattern was messed up anyway.. but when I couldn’t get to sleep I just used to go for a jog for about 15-20 minutes in the park at the end of my street, tire myself out, come home, take a hot shower and fall into bed around 4:30-5:00 am when the markets were beginning to open.
I couldn’t do that here.. I felt more safe in Portugal than I do here.. so me jogging at 4:00 am? No chance.
There is no reason I should not be sleeping all night..
I fell asleep today during the day.. so the errands I had planned like doing my laundry and buying groceries didn’t get done, which means I’ll have to do them tomorrow after church, which is also fine 🙂
I need to now start the bedtime routine.. I’ve got a lot to do.. Oil my hair, have a shower, brush my teeth, wash any dishes that may have appeared throughout the day and maybe light some candles. The essence burner I have combined with some relaxing music may help.. Until I try it, I won’t know.
In the words of Cilla Black.. “Ta ra for now!”
😛
I don’t know if this is any comfort but I suspect you’re just waking up right at the end of a sleep cycle. You have several during the night and each lasts about 90 minutes. All it means is that you can go back to sleep and start another one in peace of mind that it is completely normal. There’s a growing bank of evidence that suggests that the 8 hours of sleep idea is a complete myth and that people used to get up and do stuff in between much smaller sleeps because our brains don’t need constant sleep like that. As long as you get sufficient sleep in total it is fine to wake up and go back to sleep. So next time don’t worry – just go back to sleep!
Nosebleeds for no good reason is a different matter however! Go see a doctor young lady! O.o
I know about sleep cycles.. I have an app that counts them on my phone ha ha.
For the record my body would absolutely HATE me if I tried to make it rest for 8 hours.. that amount of time.. with me.. and sleep.. is definitely a myth!
I tried to go back to sleep.. never works.. So I get up!
And I’ve been having been nosebleeds since I was about 9 or 10.. they only happen exclusively in the summer! That’s how I know Spring/Summer is starting.. Doc said its just a seasonal thing.. I know how to stop them.. it’s just annoying when they start.. And they’re usually always in the mornings.. When I was younger it was any time.. usually after I’d finished playing outside.. as I got older they happened less, but more frequently in the mornings.. I’m used to them..
