Break Outs..

I need to take multivitamins.

Yes. I said need.

If I don’t take them, bad things happen to my body 😦

I got some new multivitamins at the beginning of this month and was excited to  see how they worked for me. I took them for about 1 week before I noticed that I was breaking out on my skin with spots. Not just on my face – and when I say face for some reason it was only selectively on my right cheek – behind my ear, down my neck and a couple of spots on my back.

I looked in the mirror one day and was horrified. I don’t get acne and my skin has always been relatively clear.. I even got a facial 2 weeks back and the therapist commented on how lovely my skin was. Anyway. I was aghast and saddened at the red speed humps that were growing into mountains on my face.

I started to go through the things I was doing differently, everything I had eaten and all the vitamins I was taking.

I was taking 1 multivitamin, 1 multivitamin with increased biotin, odourless garlic capsules (more to stop my hair shedding than anything else), additional B+ Complexes to the ones that were already in my multivitamins and MSM.

The addition of 3 new capsules/vitamins must have been the cause – so I started to Google things.

Some time after I realised that the acne I was getting was being caused by an overdose (if you will) of the vitamin B6 I was getting from one of these new supplements.
I looked it up to see what the recommended dose of B6 was. To my surprise it was between 1.2-1.5 mg per day dependent upon gender – I was taking 100 mg. Oops. By taking just taking 2 capsules a day, I was hitting the maximum recommended daily dose which was what was causing my extremely acne.. Ridiculous when I think about it as the recommended number of capsules that I should have been taking daily (as stated on the bottle) was FOUR! My face would have probably exploded!

I haven’t taken any vitamins or supplements since Friday night. I have been drinking 3 litres of water a day trying to clear my skin and flush out whatever is left in my system.

I’m going to the bathroom at the rate of 1x per hour, but my skin is clearing up, I haven’t had a headache in a couple of days and I feel great.

I’ve given myself a week without anything to see how clear my skin gets by Monday – then I will assess going forward what I feel like I want to take and what I don’t want to. I may reduce my intake from 2 capsules to 1 capsule and continue drinking my 3 litres of water a day to see how that works. It may not have helped that when I did take these vitamins and supplements, I wasn’t drinking enough water which could have also been a contributor towards my acne.

I am glad I’ve found the cause and can work on fixing my face! 🙂

I am still an Apple Juice fiend.. and this is the longest stretch that I have gone without having any – now I dream of it. Most nights.. Braeburn.. Pink Lady.. Empire.. *sigh*

  1. Grief! That sounds a lot of effort to me! I’m amazed you don’t rattle when you walk from all these things you’re taking lol.
