Heat!
This may seem strange but here goes.
I live alone in a studio apartment. It’s not huge – but it’s big enough for me. The apartment has laminate flooring all over so that means that when the apartment is cold it’s really cold as there is nothing really to trap the heat.
One evening after I’d got back from work, I had a light bulb moment.
I realised that whenever I cooked, the apartment got pretty warm pretty fast – so I had an idea.
I only have one electric heating system in my apartment and after switching that on, it’d take an hour or two to warm the place up, so I decided that I would turn the oven on and leave the door open to see how quickly it’d warm the place up. It worked pretty fast.
So now as I sit here typing this post, my room is toasty and warm and I don’t have to wear the 500 layers I usually wear!
My oven is my new bestie.. until my electric bill arrives at the end of the month that is!
Girl! I wish you warmth!
Thank you so much! I definitely need it!
LOL I thought your light bulb idea was going to be that to stay warm all you had to do was cook all the time! I think your actual idea is considerably better! #youdneverbelieveiwasateacherwouldyou…
Lol!
I do cook most evenings.. but it’s the initial hit of cold I get when I open my apartment door! lol
I don’t know what kind of heating you have but one theory for economical use suggests you should have your heating on all the time but with the temperature right down to almost as low as it gets. That way the heat builds up, keeps out damp and costs less per month. I used to do it but my wifey found it getting too warm and dry for her!
I have one small electric heater in my room.
It has a heat setting.. I’ll try that today. If it saves money I’m up for trying it!
I’m already thinking of investing in some long sleeve (and pant) pajamas!
It may not work with an electric heater but you can try. Oh but try THIS! – http://www.permaculture.co.uk/videos/heat-your-room-8-pence-day
I saw this a couple of months ago and thought it sounds a great idea. The physics behind it is sound but I haven’t tried it myself. Worth thinking about though and might be ideal for your place π
I’ll take a look at it now π
