Black out

As I type this.. I’m sitting in the dark. The only light is coming from the back-light of the laptop I’m currently using.

The lights cut out twice today while I was studying – only for a few moments – then came back on again followed by a lengthy alarm. The lights have cut out again and have yet to come back on. As I was trying to work at my desk, I used this as an excuse to get ready for bed using the torch on my phone.

This “blackout” reminds me of the holiday my family and I took to Nigeria last February where blackouts are the norm and back up generators are a must.. and where they weren’t present you simply just waited until the lights came back on.

So as I sit here in the dark, lit up by the light from my laptop; I’m thankful that I know the lights will come back on in time and also very thankful that there are no mosquito’s to nibble on me while I wait.

Bed time perhaps? I think so.

  1. Aww…your story makes me homesick for Bangladesh which sounds similar to Nigeria in that power cuts are frequent and generators essential. I’ve sad in mere laptop light many a night with those mossies chomping away. Alas…no longer 😦
