Day Sixty-Eight..#International Women’s Day

Today being International Women’s Day, I expected a fanfare of women marching in front of the Assembleia da República to the tune of Destiny’s Child‘s “Independent Women” and several hundred or so men running to open doors for us and rising whenever we stood up to leave the room..I kid! *he he*

This year, International Women’s Day celebrated 101 years of being granted a similar amount of unadulterated rights that only men used to be privy to.

As much as the world realised how important the role of a woman was, they were also quick to quash any chance of women obtaining jobs, earning a similar income or higher than their male counterparts and prevented them from rising socially as well as politically at that time.

International Women’s Day is celebrated all over the world, usually accompanied by a theme, of which this year’s theme is “Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures.”

I’ve always had a heart to help young girls..growing up, I struggled with a lot..emotionally and self-esteem wise, and at times still do..but I always feel that having gone through some of the things I went through, I would eventually be able to help a young girl going through the same thing.

IWD is a day to mark the economic, social and political achievements of women! It’s a global event in celebration of some of the awesome things women have been through and managed to overcome!

Today I celebrate my mother.

Today I celebrate my friends.

Today I celebrate ALL the inspirational women that have come through my life, that are currently in my life, and those women that I am yet to meet!

Let’s celebrate the women who have made a difference in our lives!

  5. This is just a little dog’s view you understand but it’s thanks to the machinations of the church that women have been kept back through the centuries. That is why Mary Magdelene was given the image of a prostitute or adulteress when the Bible was edited at Nicea.
Skins won’t realise their true potential unless they have their “other half”, together men and women can acheive anything. The ancients knew this, look at the Star of David for example, a symbol that the Jewish people adopted but it is older than that; it represents the joining of the cup and wand – women and men.
Equality for women and men, then go change the world together.
